Guango Lodge

About Guango Lodge

What was once a cattle farm has transformed into a popular hostel for travelers passing through the Papallacta region. Famous for its hot springs and various species of birds (especially hummingbirds), avian aficionados come from all over the world to witness the Amazon's tropical secrets. A good pair of binoculars or a camera will drop your jaw as you witness up to 14 different species of hummingbirds in only one hour. And all right from the lodge.

This beautiful lodge is built right into the primary forest, with an emphasis on eco-tourism that helps both the community and the natural environment. While here, it will be obvious that the primary focus is bird watching and conservation, but there are also other great opportunities, like:

  • Hiking
  • Cooking lessons
  • Photography lessons
  • Strolling through the orchid garden
  • And more

Alternative options to Guango

WildSumaco Lodge is a great alternative hotel to Guango. This lodge focuses almost entirely on the amazing bird species that the Amazon hosts. The activities that you can do are more limited than other lodges like Jamu Lodge or Suchipakari, but there are still great places to enjoy a nature hike or observe the breathtaking natural views that the Amazon offers.

Extend your stay with some time in the Galapagos or the Andes

Any trip to the Amazon requires you to pass through Ecuador's capital city of Quito, so why not get here a few days early to enjoy all that this colonial bastion has to offer? A few days in the Sierra region might include an exploration of the many museums and monuments that harken back to the country's colonial days or even a relaxing retreat to a thermal hot spring spa.

The Galapagos Islands are another very popular destination for eager explorers hoping to see the wealth of endemic creatures that call Ecuador their home. Here, you will get a chance to snorkel, whale watch, and maybe even swim with sharks, among a host of other exciting activities unique only to the Galapagos.

And it's all available on a budget. Just let us know and we'll take care of the planning so that you can focus on the fun.
